The title makes the poster's argument plain: once the war ended, the gardens planted for wartime need would keep feeding people as "peace plants." The National War Garden Commission, formed in 1917 and led by Charles Lathrop Pack, urged Americans to grow vegetables on home and public land so more farm produce could go to Allied troops and civilians overseas. Illustrator Maginel Wright Enright, a sister of architect Frank Lloyd Wright, is credited with the design, which reflects how the government turned food production into a shared civic duty during the war.
