A witch on a broomstick, flanked by carved jack-o'-lanterns, is the kind of image that defined American Halloween postcards in the early twentieth century. Cards like this were mass-produced by printing houses and mailed between friends and family in the weeks before October 31, often with a short handwritten greeting on the back. The bright palette and exaggerated, cheerful figures reflect a holiday that was then shifting from its older harvest and folk roots toward a more playful, child-friendly celebration. Look closely at the lanterns and the witch's flying pose, since these motifs were repeated across many cards of the period.
